NEW ZEALAND — More than 20 seals have been clubbed to death on the Kaikoura coast. Some of the eight newborn pups killed in the attack were just a few days old. The dead seals also included 13 females and two bulls, according to media reports. Department of Conservation South Marlborough area manager Dave Hayes told media it was a "callous and cowardly attack". "Some of the dead seals appear to have been killed a week ago; others look to have been killed around a week or so beforehand," he said. "This is a callous and cowardly attack on seals, especially newborn pups, unable to defend themselves against someone striking them with a bat or similar club-like object." He said after examining their smashed skulls it appeared it "was a person or persons of some strength who carried out the attacks". The seals were found at the Ohau Point seal colony, about 22 km north of Kaikoura township. Anyone with information about the seal attack and the person or persons responsible should contact DOC's South Marlborough Area Office in Renwick, phone (03) 572 9100 or police.

Chito made friends with the croc after finding him with a gunshot wound on the banks of the Central American state's Parismina river 20 years ago. He had been shot in the left eye by a cattle farmer and was close to death. But Chito enlisted the help of several pals to load the massive reptile into his boat. He says: "When I found Pocho in the river he was dying, so I brought him into my house". "He was very skinny, weighing only around 150lb I gave him chicken and fish and medicine for six months to help him recover. "I stayed by Pocho's side while he was ill, sleeping next to him at night. I just wanted him to feel that somebody loved him, that not all humans are bad. It meant a lot of sacrifice. I had to be there every day. I love all animals - especially ones that have suffered." It took years before Chito felt that Pocho had bonded with him enough to get closer to the animal. He says: "After a decade I started to work with him. At first it was slow, slow. I played with him a bit, slowly doing more. "Then I found out that when I called his name he would come over to me." At one point during his recovery, Chito left the croc in a lake near his house. But as he turned to walk away, to his amazement Pocho got out of the water and began to follow him home. Chito recalls: "That convinced me the crocodile could be tame." In this picturesqe hike on Oahu in Hawaii, we saw numerous rare and unsual animals along the way. We saw a racoon peering through the leaves, a leopard sitting in a tree, a bunch of giraffes grazing in the meadows, and a young chimpanzee hiding in the bushes. Most hikers don't see these wild and native Hawaiian animals on Hawaii hikes......but, we did!!!!

I went on a hiking trip to the Porcupine Mountains with my buddies Dan and Steve. It was a great trip with unbelievable views. AWESOME!
