The Schapendoes (Dutch Sheepdog, Dutch Schapendoes or Nederlandse Schapendoes) was valued by shepherds in the Netherlands as an intelligent and tireless worker. He is believed to be related to the Bearded Collie and the Briard among others. Although the Dutch Sheepdog has existed for centuries, the breed is not common. The Schapendoes is friendly, high-spirited, independent and alert. He is also very affectionate and loyal to his family. He has great endurance, mobility and speed as well as a tremendous ease of jumping. November 2010: Frances and Gracie completing their AKC Obedience Open A CDX title in Las Vegas, NV with a very nice score of 194.5 out of 200 points. Frances and Gracie was the only qualifying team in the Open A class that day.

NEW ZEALAND — More than 20 seals have been clubbed to death on the Kaikoura coast. Some of the eight newborn pups killed in the attack were just a few days old. The dead seals also included 13 females and two bulls, according to media reports. Department of Conservation South Marlborough area manager Dave Hayes told media it was a "callous and cowardly attack". "Some of the dead seals appear to have been killed a week ago; others look to have been killed around a week or so beforehand," he said. "This is a callous and cowardly attack on seals, especially newborn pups, unable to defend themselves against someone striking them with a bat or similar club-like object." He said after examining their smashed skulls it appeared it "was a person or persons of some strength who carried out the attacks". The seals were found at the Ohau Point seal colony, about 22 km north of Kaikoura township. Anyone with information about the seal attack and the person or persons responsible should contact DOC's South Marlborough Area Office in Renwick, phone (03) 572 9100 or police.
