In September we had a 'surprise' visit from the Australian Customs ship, the 'Oceanic Viking'. It brought mail, cargo and fresh fruit to our little existence here taking morale to a higher level. Although it did finally manage to drop off some goods, there were times where it didn't look good... In the end all were excited to see new faces and receive our gifts. I got a new SLR for some better shooting and also a smaller camera, the TX1, which will make my podcasts a lot easier to film on the go footage. Plus it can also go underwater!

Zeek is a 1 year old recently neutered male Border Collie or BC Mix (we're not 100% sure yet). He is healthy and anxious to find a home where he will get the exercise, love and care that he deserves. He is making fast progress and he's loving the farm life and the watering hole swims especially. He's got a girlfriend now (Kip) and he's made friends with the cats and people of all ages that he's met. He hasn't needed correcting for running off or not coming when called yet which is amazing. He's got a lot to learn but he's really a great student. We think he'd be great for a pet but we think his calling really is goose work (pending his sheep work tomorrow), agility, disc, or flyball. Dogness needs some surgery. Many have asked about TNP "dogness," Allie the Mountain Dog and how she's doing. I Tweeted that she has possible knee issues and needs an expensive surgery. I consulted with two veterinarians and this vid shows our visit with the second and the results the x-rays I had taken. I will use him and his associated surgeon to do the work. I was really worried she had developed hip dysplasia. We discuss the findings on that here and it seems to be good news. She is able to walk and hike at walking speeds without any problems but her running regime has been on hold for over two months as I tried to detect improvement. Nope, she needs fixin'. Her surgery will be scheduled soon and hopefully get her back to 100%. She is a an adventure veteran in TNP and within our family, having gone on many hardcore adventures and outings. We're keeping fingers crossed that we find exactly what's wrong and fix it.////////////////////Note: Many TNPrs contributed generously to Allie's surgery and we are grateful and humbled by your concern for her and helping us. Daizee's mom was concerned about how she was feeling this morning. Mom was stressed taking her other dog to a Rally Obedience competition in Peoria. Daizee was a little sick and was not taking food, so with the stress on the road here is a happy Daizee doing a long sit in the lobby and taking food for reward! 8/19/2011

This deer chased -literally chased Kiya through the woods today. My last words before I turned the camera off were, "I'm going to walk this way and see what happens." I wish I had kept the camera on. Seconds later Kiya took off running with the deer right on her tail. They hit the trail and came straight toward me. I freaked and screamed a profanity -real loud. Kiya kept going but the deer stopped and turned off the path. I thought it would turn away and forget about her but it took off after her again! I made my way to the cement path and whistled. Kiya showed up a few seconds later sans the deer. When she yelps in her sleep later, I'll know what she's dreaming about!

The Rottweiler de Baja This is Big Dog. He came into my life one early July. He was heavy when he leaned into my bosom - furry and black and sweet. The rottweiler who came to be known as Big Dog. He has bounced his way in and out of my daily life as he has destroyed precious belongings and contributed to at least one broken wrist. But it is all forgiven when i look into those playful eyes. When I come home from a busy and tiresome day at the office, he licks my hand as I grope for the gate closure - this is the entrance fee. A series of contradictions this Big Dog. He has been schooled and yet he is as dumb as a fence post. He hears nothing when i speak to him yet he can hear horses and cows and cats that are blocks away. He is as dangerous as he can be yet he is as gentle as a fuzzy chick. He will threaten you within one inch of your life if you come to the gate unannounced yet he will step back when the gates are opened as if to say "I could have had you any time". Perhaps it is only to get a "run" at you. He can skip backwards without hesitation but will never do it on command. He can kick a football that would make any quarterback proud yet sometimes he can barely make it up the stairs. He can make those same stairs in one bound and sometimes he is afraid to come down from them.
