SESSION #1 -6 week program for dogs that have a LARGE greeting style. -Layla has a meet & greet with people that is a launch and his causing her owner some distress. -We are starting to modify this behavior for the first week with a long line, clicker, treats and two people. Layla cannot access people (as she will jump BIG) so we are having people access her. -When I come into her space she needs to offer me something; sit, down, stand. then she receives a click and treat. OWNERS HOMEWORK- - Layla needs a minimum of 2 hours of aerobic activity a day (not necessarily at one time). - Onwer needs to walk into Layla's space a minimum of 30 times a day, when she offers a calm behavior, C/T. If she jumps and launches then the owner is to leave the room completely for 30 seconds. - Layla is to have minimal contact with people out on walks and at the front door for this week. -No off leash time where other people may be present.
This is a video of my Working Sheepdog, Paddy, Malaridge Pitstop Paddy OW, at Crufts 2006. We were competing in the Inter-Regional Competition in Class 'C'. All my training is positive and motivational, with NO negative training aids, ie, choke chains, pinch collars or 'making' the dog do it. They do it because they enjoy it. Simple as that....
SESSION #2- Layla's owner did a great job this week working with week #1 home work. Week #2 we had Layla on an easywalk harness and leash. There were two children in a circle (for human visual aid) pretending to reach out and shake hands. Children were calm and slow in movement as we want to work underthreshold. As we approach, any behavior Layla offers besides jumping gets a C/T. WHen she is settled in,the children step outside of circle but still keep some distance. No rewards are ever offered by the approaching person, only offered by the handler/owner. Look at Layla's focus on working while offering a behavior everytime a child approaches. OWNER HOMEWORK week #2 - - 2 hours minimum of aerobic exercise a day - no off leash time with other people around for now - no access to the front door if someone knocks - Have at least 1-2 people a day, that you know, that can act as approaching strangers. Keep appropriate distance, have then act calm and move slowly for this week, have HIGH value rewards ready, and walk around. As your dog offers any behavior besides jumping, C/T. Session should not be more than 3 minutes in length. Can repeat this several times a day if you have time. - continue to work with walking toward your dog and C/T for any behavior besides jumping (30 repetitions a day is preferrable)
